Activating the credit card ability of your Capitec Global One Card is easy as 1-2-3!
Once you have your Global One Card follow these steps:
- Visit a Capitec Bank branch near you,
- Ask for the Credit Card ability of your card (Capitec Mastercard SecureCode).
Wait 24 hours after receiving the sms before following the instructions on the page
NB! If you try to activate your card before the 24 hour period is over you will render your code invalid and you will then have to restart the process.
Waited 24 hours? Now you may follow either option A or B on the page. I’ll be covering option A.
You need to answer 3 security questions for activation so have these ready:

- Your card expiry date (The date in the red rectangle below)
- Your national ID number or Passport number
- Your activation code which is in the SMS

- Type in the address (https://www.capitecbank.co.za/mastercard-securecode-activation), then click on the Activate MasterCard SecureCode button which will take you to a page like the one below
- click activate now
- Now enter your Card Number (NOT your account number) & email address
- click next
- Now you should read the terms & conditions
- Once you’ve read it (Did you really read it? :P) you should be at the bottom of the page
- Tick the ‘Accept’ box and click next
- Enter the name on your card exactly as it is, complete with uppercase
- Select the expiry date of your card
- Enter your National ID number or Passport number
- Type in the activation code you received in the SMS
- Click Next
- Create your SecureCode
- Create your personal greeting
- Click next
Well done! You have activated your Global One Card’s credit card abilities and you are now ready to go online shopping! 😀

If you forget your securecode you can visit https://www.capitecbank.co.za/mastercard-securecode-activation again and follow the instructions to create a new securecode.
If you are having any of the problems below I suggest you follow Michael’s advice:
- It tells you that it requires valid payment method information.
- “The bank that issued your card didn’t approve this transaction. Please contact the card issuer’s customer service department if you have any questions. Or you can add a different card now to continue”
- Any of your purchases get declined.
Here’s what I did and it could help anyone else who is struggling to make online purchases:
1. Download the Capitec Remote Banking app
2. Click/tap on “Cards.”
3. Enter your PIN that you created to access numerous areas of the app.
4. Tap on the card you want to make online purchases with.
5. Click/tap on “Update Limits.”
6. Click/tap on “Update.”
7. Click/tap on “Next.”
8. Turn EVERYTHING on
9. Edit “Online / Telephone / Mail Purchases” and increase it to your heart’s content.
10. Click/tap “Update.”
11. You’ll get a pop-up stating that it was successful.OR
You can go to the bank and ask them to increase your online purchases amount to what you want, because the default amount is at R0.00. That is why your card isn’t being accepted anywhere online.
Now you’ll be able to enter your payment details in iTunes, etc. Hope this helps 🙂

Which application are you referring to?
If you are referring to the Capitec banking app then you should visit a Capitec branch near you to get help with it.
You need the app to update your limits so you can use your card for online purchases, but it is not needed to make purchases online.

I have registered and activated my Global One debit card through Capitec. Activated my card through the MasterCard SecureCode website, everything went well. I have tried to make online purchases, with sufficient funds, but declines. iTunes won’t accept my card information either, says it requires valid payment method information, yet I entered all my information correctly. Any clue on what might be causing this error?

I have also tried to activate this shit, 3x now, and it keeps on telling me that my account is either suspended or the info I entered is incorrect. I also tried the card name in lowercase, mixedcase and uppercase with no luck. The call center will just ask you at what time did you request online shopping activation, meaning that Capitec has no visibility of the whole process.
And why should there be a 24hrs waiting period, especially if you do the activation shit at a branch. Simplicity! Simplicity! Simplicity my foot. I have decided to go back to ‘shitter’ FNB, they are expensive but Capitec’s technology is that of the dinosaur ages.

Hi Kurt, you seem to have good answers:) I am very upset!! been to bank 3 times to register and activate my global one card. I keep telling the idiots behind the counters that it must have something to do with the CSC 3 digit code on back cos my card dont get accepted at all at Paypal or any online shop! My old card worked perfectly with a 702 code but it expired and my new card now have 209 cvc code. Is this the problem? PS: i activated secure code after 24 hrs after sms etc, so that cant be the problem. please advise. thx

I went into a branch and was told this card does not have any credit card ability. Could you please clarify the “credit card ability” for me? To me credit card means buy now and pay for it later, or is this not the case?

No, “credit card ability” does not mean buy now and pay for it later in this case.
What it means is that this has a CVV number and allows you to purchase things online like a credit card would allow you to do.
You do not receive any kind of credit with this card and you still have to have money in your account to make purchases.

It normally doesn’t take that long. You should go back into the bank to request the code again.
It’s because the is the one that is declining if I am trying to pay online and that other one I am not sure if it’s a password, and if I contact the bank there say I must reactivate the code again, if I try to activate, it’s saying my account has been suspended, so I have forgotten the code
Then you should visit a Capitec branch near you and reapply for the SecureCode. Then you have to start the process again.

ive tried to activated the card now, its been 24 hours now since ive received that sms with the code. but every time i enter my name, ID, expiry date and security code and click next it tells me ti make sure that ive entered everything correct.

hey man, yes I did sort it out, I had to use the url on the printed page they gave me, I first clicked the one on your blog, but when I used the one they gave me it worked. It was abit different but sille me threw the page away so I cant look it up now. paypal is setup and working now and did some online shopping etc everything works 100% capitec is the best XD. many thanks for these tutorials!

Is your PayPal account suspended or your Capitec card?
If it is PayPal you need to contact them and if it is Capitec you will need to go into the branch and inform them of the problem.

You just have to visit the branch to activate your secure code and get the intstructions.
The rest of the procedure is done online and you do not need to do it in the branch.
Connecting PayPal to your Capitec Global One Card is easy, just follow my instructions.
