If you are like me and you like shopping online then you know how time consuming it is filling in your card details every time you purchase things, especially from overseas.
Paypal makes it easy to shop internationally by storing your card details and just asking you for your PayPal credentials before making your purchase. You will also have the ability to get a refund within 45 days if you are unhappy with your purchase even if the store you purchased from is uncooperative, however you should always try to resolve the problem with the store first.

Hi William,
You can only withdraw directly to FNB from PayPal.
You will have to contact PayPal with regards to the “Hard Hold on Account” error though.
Tarish says
Hi, I have a business account and trying to link my bank which is capitec but it is not allowing me too.
Please help!
Kurt Wyngaard says
Hi Tarish,
You can connect your card to PayPal to buy things, but you can only use an FNB account to withdraw funds from PayPal.
Masi says
Hi!
I just wanted to know that if I created a Paypal acc will R18 be deducted from my Capitec one once linking It? Also, will I be able to delete my PayPal acc online if I want to?
Kurt Wyngaard says
Yes and yes!
You’ll still have access to the R18, but it’ll be in your PayPal account.
olivesworldwisdom says
OMG thank you so much for this – iv been trying for months and turns out i only needed funds in my primary account – did a quick transfer and it worked!
Kurt Wyngaard says
Great stuff! 🙂
Princess says
Hi , I tried to link and it did link but due to unforeseen circumstances I had to delete my card and start again but paypal tells me that my capitec bank acc (mastercard) is not allowed cannot be linked. I tried several times and I have no idea what is happening, can you perhaps assist?
Kurt Wyngaard says
Hi Princess,
Please contact Capitec Customer Service as they will be able to assist you best.
Sabekazi says
Good say Kurt, does having a saving account and a fixed deposit account in one card affect you linking your Capitec account
to PayPal even though your have activated online shopping on the card?
Kurt Wyngaard says
Hi Sabekazi,
Nope, not at all.
You’ll still be able to activate it.
Nothile says
Aii Kurt , You doing a commendable Job. Really , Keep up the good work!

Hi Kurt,
I went to the bank and activated the Capitec MasterCard SecureCode a few days later. I have also followed Michael’s suggestion and increased the limits, but still PayPal does not want to accept the Global One debit card number. It just says “sorry you cannot use this card, or try another card”.
Kurt Wyngaard says
Hi soulsocietyinfo,
This is strange.
I suggest you contact Capitec’s 24hr Client Care via 0860 10 20 43.
Please let us know if they assist you.

I need to add I have a Paypal account and used it for many years. Sure I also used a Capitec account but my card was lost and I got a new one.
I followed your instructions to link the card to the Paypal account but can’t get it done.
hugo says
“The bank that issued your card didn’t approve this transaction. Please contact the card issuer.s customer service department if you have any questions. Or you can add a different card now to continue”. This is the error message I receive on Paypal if I try to link my capitec Global One card.
I have activated the MasterCard Secure Code.
I have contacted capitec by email and they confirmed my card is activated.
I still keep on getting this message that the bank do not approve the transaction
Kurt Wyngaard says
Hi Hugo,
Thanks for your comment.
Please try the solution provided by Michael here.

Can i withdraw money from paypal onto my capitec acc? and if possible how?
Kurt Wyngaard says
Hi Zara,
This is not possible.
You have to link your PayPal account to FNB in order to withdraw your funds.
Charlie says
Hi Kurt
Can I add a savings debit card to PayPal? If so how? I’m Capitec
Kurt Wyngaard says
Hi Charlie,
Yes, both the savings and credit card from Capitec are able to connect to PayPal.
Beverley Dippenaar says
If I only have a debit mastercard why can I not link my card to paypal account.
Kurt Wyngaard says
Hi Beverly,
Did you follow the steps in this tutorial first before you tried linking your card to your PayPal account?
Lesego says
Dear Kurt
Your articles have been extremely helpful and I have managed to successfully link my Capitect bank account on Paypal :)! Thank you kindly.
I have a very urgent question. I purchased an item on ebay this morning (the item will be shipped from USA). Now I need to cancel my order because the shipping address I entered may change (I’m moving to a new city) before the parcel is delivered. Will the funds be automatically reversed into my Capitec account upon cancellation of the purchase?
Thanks
Kurt Wyngaard says
Hi Lesego,
I’m glad you found this article helpful. 🙂
You will have to chat with the seller of the item to confirm that.
Mojalefa says

Hi Brandon,
Try increasing the limit for online purchases at a Capitec bank branch.
Let me know if that helps.

Hanno says
Hi Kurt
So…I have linked my Nedbank Credit card successfully with my PayPal account. Problem is, it doesn’t seem like I have access to the funds in my PayPal account. Can I only use it for online payment now? Or is there something else I must do to ensure that I can use the PayPal funds…?
Kurt Wyngaard says
Hi Hanno,
You don’t have to connect a card to PayPal to use the funds that is in there, but if you would like to withdraw it then I suggest you follow this tutorial.
Asanda says
How do i withdraw fund from my paypal to my capitec account, i struggled with linking my card because it gives US information but i managed to link my global one account to the credit card but now whats next i have been struggling for the past 3 days
Kurt Wyngaard says
Hi Asanda,
The only way I know of is to link your PayPal account to a FNB account.
Simonne de Bruin says
Hi there, I tried this (Add Credit Card) and they withdrew a small amount from my bank account like they said and I received a code to verify my card and it got verified on paypal. But the problem is, I want to actually put money on my Paypal account. When I click on “Add Funds” Paypal says “You’ll need to add a bank account”. Am I just stupid? Don`t I need to have funds in my Paypal account in order for Netflix to deduct money?
Kurt Wyngaard says
Hi Simonne,
Don’t worry about being confused.
It’s a common question. This comment explains it clearly.
Don says
Kurt, you are a KING! To all battling, go open a Payoneer account, simple fast hassle free.. No long stories like FNB. Register online, get your card sent to you an off you go , oh and get paid . It’s simple.
Thanks for all the advice ???
Don
Kurt Wyngaard says
Thank you Don. 🙂
Unfortunately, PayPal doesn’t work with Payoneer anymore according to this thread, but let us know if you got it to work.
Werner Strydom says
You article on registering on FNB portal for non FNB clients proofed to be true. Trying to use FNB online portal is a real nightmare. After MORE than a month of phoning and e-mailing FNB, I still get the same error. (User ID exists). WHAT must I do?
Kurt Wyngaard says
Hi Werner,
The best thing would be to visit a FNB branch near you and get it sorted out right there.
Joe says
Hi Kurt.
So how do you ADD funds to your Paypal acc? I have my Global One Card linked. Paypal says you dont need a balance to purchase, so does it mean that Paypal will deduct whatever purchase price automatically from my Capitec acc?
Kurt Wyngaard says
Hi Joe,
You don’t need to ADD funds to your PayPal account and your last sentence is correct.
Read this comment for more insight.
Andrea says
Thanks for getting back to me. Does this mean that money can be paid into my account as well as out of it?
Kurt Wyngaard says
You’re welcome.
Yes, money can be paid into your account; however you will need to link your PayPal account to an FNB profile to withdraw it.
When you purchase something with your Paypal account it will be used like a conduit so no money will be kept in it, but your money will pass through it which helps to protect your details from the store you are purchasing from.
Andrea says
Hi there, thanks for all the info but when I try to link my Capitec account all I get is a page asking for American bank accounts only?
Kurt Wyngaard says
Hi Andrea,
Select Add Credit Card and not Add Bank Account.
If you have activated your mastercard securecode already then your Capitec Global One Card can be used as a credit card.
Andre says
Hey man me again haha
can I view my bank statements online?
“This will reflect on your statement in 1 – 3 business days with a 4 digit PayPal verification number
Use your internet banking to check your statement for this code”
I cant find it anyware with online banking.
Thanks in advance!
Kurt Wyngaard says
Hi Andre,
Lol, no problem. Yes, you can. Which bank are you with?
Just click on the balance on the account and it will take you to the statement section.
Zusiphe Ngwane says
Hi, Mr. Wyngaard. Thank you for the article. Is the a reason why my Capitec Global One card would decline linking to my PayPal account? I tried linking my card and I got an error saying that “The bank that issued your card didn’t approve this transaction. Please contact the card issuer’s customer service department if you have any questions.Or you can add a different card now to continue.” I went to one of the Capitec branches and they could not assist me. They told me that the problem might be with PayPal. Is there anything that I need to do that I haven’t done already? Please help if you can. Thank you.
Kurt Wyngaard says
Hi Zusiphe,
Have you activated your Global one card yet?
James says
Yes i know that and what i meant was it has not been refunded back to my paypla account and it has been more then 48 hours
Kurt Wyngaard says
Aah okay. You need to log in here – https://www.paypal.com/selfhelp/contact/email and contact them about the problem.
James says
Please i aslo need help. I have done all that is required,i got the code from my statement confirmed my credit card but my fund has not yet been returned back to me. However, i also try paying for something with my paypal account which is already linked to my Capitec Global One Card and i keep getting this message (Paypal #10417: Instruct the customer to retry the transaction using an alternative ;payment method from customers Paypal wallet. The transaction did not complete with the customer selected payment method)
Kurt Wyngaard says
Hi James,
PayPal does not return the funds in your bank account.
It will show as funds in your PayPal account.

MishScreamz says
Hey, Can you withdraw money from your paypal account to your capitec card? and how do i do this?
Kurt Wyngaard says
Hi MishScreamz,
You cannot do that. You can register on the FNB website for a PayPal account instead.
Follow the tutorial below: https://www.fnb.co.za/travel-products/paypal.html
Debby says
I have linked my Capitec card and still I cannot get my money. I have to sign in to FNB inorder to draw my money. That’s really pathetic, because I don’t have the time to go to that bank and register. I have tried to register on line but because I am an ex client of theirs, I have a problem.
Kurt Wyngaard says
Hi Debby,
There is another way via Payoneer that you could try if you do not want to go the FNB route.[Payoneer no longer connects to PayPal]
Jonny says
Hey, Kurt. So today I did register for this at my bank and they told me that I will receive an sms but I still haven’t received it and 5 hours passed, how long does it usually take?
Kurt Wyngaard says
Hi Jonny,
It usually takes 24 hours. 🙂
Jonny says
Thanks man! I did received it and another question, Will my 4 digit pin be seen on my Paypal statement? That one that they will send after took the 1.95USD ( It says it will take 1-3 business days)
Jonny says
To verify your card 🙂
Kurt Wyngaard says
Hi Jony,
It will reflect on your Capitec card statement. If you have internet banking you will be able to see it quickly by looking at your account statement.
Karin says
Hi Kurt.

Kurt Wyngaard says
Hi Karin,
Have you checked if the funds are in your FNB account? You cannot withdraw Paypal funds into your Capitec account, but you can withdraw it into your FNB account.
mickhyle says
Hi Kurt. I love your website. Great innovation. I’m also well aware of together we pass. You are a real innovative team.
My question. I’ve currently linked my global one card with paypal. Good.
So now for money earned online. .. I have to have a fnb cheque account.
Do I link the fnb card with the same paypal account?
For buying I can use my capitec card. For income..I withdraw with the fnb card.
What’s the fnb transaction fees like?
Kurt Wyngaard says
Hi Mick,
Thank you; I appreciate it. 🙂
Actually, I’ve just found out that you do not need to hold an account with FNB to link your Paypal account.
All you have to do is visit FNB.co.za, click register and choose the ‘Paypal for Non-FNB customers’ option.
I’m not sure how you would withdraw the cash using this option though. Please tell us when you’ve tried!
Here are the transaction fees FNB charges. It is 1.5% of the value you are withdrawing or topping up.
mickhyle says
Thanks.
I have tried the “Paypal for non-FNB customers” option. Unfortunately I got an error message to say that My ID number exists on their system.and I was instructed to check my profile on fnb online.
Those who have experienced similar situation- here’s my story to save you energy from visiting the bank. It took the consultant and myself an hour and a half to come to a conclusion.
First the consultant was not aware of non FNB customers who can open up paypal with them. So she learnt something new.
Then she checked my ID number on the system and found out that I had an account with them which was donkey years. And my internet banking was dormant.
She called to have the internet banking opened again. So I tried signing up on the “Paypal for non-FNB customers” option again, and I still got the error.
So she called for advice again and the lady on the other side of the line said that she has encountered this problem often. And because my ID number is on the system , and they can’t delete it off the system, I have no choice but to open up an account. I am given the option to open up an “easy ” account ,which will cost R4.50 to maintain on a monthly basis. which I do not mind.
I’ll let you know how the Withdrawal option works once set up and I have income in my paypal account.
I personally don’t believe my records can’t be deleted off the banking system. It’s just commercial, to catch old users. Also it’s probably expensive to have old data removed. And cheaper to force ex- customers to come back.(That’s just my thinking.)
Kurt Wyngaard says
Thanks for explaining the situation Mick. 🙂
I wish you the best of luck in withdrawing your PayPal funds!
Lynet says
Hi Kurt,
I am a Capitec client and have to be able to create some kind of account that would allow US Dollars to be paid into ZAR to be able to withdraw.
Which one is the best?
Kurt Wyngaard says
Hi Lynet,
I would suggest that you open an FNB account as they allow you to withdraw money via PayPal.
thegadgetreviewmaster says
Hey, How would i add cash to paypal? I have set up everything allready but adding funds is not something im clued up on.
Kurt Wyngaard says
Jason asked a similar question. Please refer to that comment.

I have also activated the MasterCard Secure Code. I’m at the dead end. Please advice of what i should do next……..
Kurt Wyngaard says
Are you trying to add the card or are you trying to create a transaction?
I suggest that you go into the bank to verify that your MasterCard Secure Code is activated and then try again.
Zwelonke says
Thanks for your response. I will have to visit my branch soon.
Kurt Wyngaard says
You’re welcome! 🙂

Then i went to paypal to register i received a error msg ‘ the bank that issued this card did not authorize this transaction’ please help i am really desperate
Kurt Wyngaard says
Hi Jabulile,
It might be the same problem Nathan and Jared experienced below or it could be that you did not activate your Capitec Mastercard Securecode properly.
Cheryl says
Hi Kurt
Please could you assist me. When you link your Capitec Global One card to PayPal (when entering your credit card details) you are asked for the CSC 3-digit numbers – I keep getting a error. There are 4 digits on the back and they are the last 4 numbers of your card number on the front. Help!!
Many thanks
Kurt says
Hi Cheryl,
The 3 digit CSC number is next to the 4 digits on the back of your card.
If you do not have 7 digits on the back of your card you should visit a Capitec Branch near you and ask why. 🙂
Cheryl says
Hi Kurt
Many thanks for your prompt reply. I went to Capitec and apparently my Global One card had been printed incorrectly by the teller.
Thanks a mill for all your help 🙂
Kurt Wyngaard says
I’m glad you got it sorted Cheryl! You’re welcome! 🙂

Hi Kurt I had money transferred from a paypal account straight to my capitec account but it still has not reflected and its been nearly 3 weeks. Please advise what the problem could be? It was transferred in dollars

Hi Fahria,
I suggest you contact capitec directly via clientcare@capitecbank.co.za and find out. You can also visit one of their branches.
Retha Burger says
Hi Chris. I was so grateful to find you via Google search, but what is the point in Capitec acknowledging Paypal if we can’t transfer money from Paypal into our Capitec accounts?? I will check out Payoneer, though.
admin says
Hi Retha,
I’m glad you found it helpful.
It is the credit card ability that allows the Global one card to connect to PayPal, just like any other credit card from the other banks. FNB is the only bank where you can link your Cheque account to PayPal, that is why you can withdraw funds with it.
I hope that makes it clearer.
jason says
Hi Kurt. I may be missing something but how do I transfer money from my capitec global one account to my paypal account? Everything up til now has been a breeze thanks for the info.
Kurt Wyngaard says
Hi Jason,
You do not need to transfer money to your PayPal account. After you have linked your account you can make purchases anywhere and PayPal will act as the middle man converting your Rands to US Dollars automatically.
Chris says
Dear Kurt,
I have funds seating in my Paypal account and i want to have those funds deposited into my Capitech account ? Is that possible? if so how do you go about doing that ( My Capitech debit card is registered with paypal already). Thank you.
admin says
Hi Chris,
This is not possible.
You will have to open an FNB Cheque account or use Payoneer to assist you in withdrawing money from PayPal.
Alex says
Hi Kurt,
When I try to link my capitec card to my paypal it gives me an error that says “We were unable to verify this card. Please review and make sure that the information you entered is correct. Your card billing address needs to match your PayPal street address.” even though my card address and my paypal DO match? I have mailed payapl twice about the issue but has received no response. DO you have any idea why this is happening?
admin says
Hi Alex,
I did a Google search and it seems that once you receive that error and correct both addresses you will have to wait a while before you can connect your card again. Perhaps a full 24 hours should work.
Please tell us if this helped?
Alex says
Ok I will wait and let you know if it works, thanks for the quick reply. Aces
Alex says
Ok that did not work, I got a response from paypal stating that I will have to go and sort it out at the bank itself
admin says
It might be that the bank has a different address recorded?
heldeman says
Hey this is a nice info site. The best of its type I have seen

Bridget says
Hi Kurt,
I am in the process of opening an online store and just wanted to find out whether payments made to my store via my paypal account will be paid directly into my Capitec account?
admin says
Hi Bridget,
No, it won’t be paid directly into your account.
One way to withdraw funds from your PayPal account is to link it with a FNB cheque account.
You can also use Payoneer, but I haven’t tried it yet.
Shané says
Hi Kurt, please tell me if Im not understanding this correctly. If you have your capitec account linked with paypal you will only be able to withdraw money if you link it with an FNB online profile? Or payoneer? Wich means if I want to withdraw money with payoneer instead of FNB I just need to like my paypal/capitec acc to payoneer, order the card and I will br able to withdraw the money?
And another question,if I get paid in my paypall account in $ , will that money be available my capitec acc as R or is it going to stay in my paypall acc untill I withdraw it from FNB / Payoneer?
Thanks for your help
Shané says
Okay I found the answer to my 2nd question haha thanks
wesley says
there maybe a possibility to not open that type of account with them i was on the phone with one of their agents earlier and it does seem like they need some documents such as id, proof of res, and a bank statement and you can open a non account holds thing with the paypal department but with all that said it may not be the truth either so i am planning on going into a branch tomorrow and when i can find out everything from them i will let you know about all the particulars, also who knows because all the banks seem to say one thing and then do another such as capitec even their call centre told me that i must call fnb and open an account with them but the woman i spoke to at fnb said that i dont have to have account with fnb just with their paypal department so i just have to wait and see but if anyone wants the number i called of the paypal department its 0871729725. it may help some one in the future who knows
Kurt Wyngaard says
Hello Wesley,
Have you tried to make a purchase yet? If you are stuck I would advice you to purchase something cheap using your Paypal account to test your account. If the transaction goes through you can try it with fxglory. If it is unsuccessful please post the error message here.
wesley says
hi again im still only wondering if this transaction will work with what im really intending to do with paypal, there is a site that i would like to add money onto its forex but a sort of side link to that its fxglory and they do take paypal but im wondering and this maybe a stupid question but is it all relevant can the money still go through in the same way because it does seem as if all of these people working there now know less than me and thats funny because im still asking you so how much help are they? anyway will the money still go through in the same manor ? thanks so much for your time you have been a great help
Kurt Wyngaard says
Hi Wesley,
Is the site you are referring to fxglory(dot)com?
I’m sure it should work the same way.
I should just warn you that if you would like to withdraw the money you will have to open an FNB cheque account as this is the only way that South African’s can withdraw money from PayPal that I know of.
cherise moodley says
Hi! I just wanted to know if working over the internet and getting paid in dollars is supported by Capitec Bank.
Kurt Wyngaard says
Hi Cherise!
This is an interesting question and something I haven’t had the chance to test yet.
I think you should email Capitec Bank and ask them as their client service is really great.
Here is their email address: clientcare@capitecbank.co.za
Please tell me what their reply is as I’m sure all the readers would love to know as well?
Ashley says
It does cause some issues. I work online for several American companies and have had issues, mainly because Capitec uses Nedbank as an intermediary bank
Kurt Wyngaard says
Thank you Ashley! 🙂

Thanks for this information. I had no clue. I’m going to a Capitec branch tomorrow.

I registered it for online shopping and it says this when I try: This credit card has been denied by the bank that issued your credit card. For details on why your card was denied, please contact your credit card issuer’s customer service department. Or, you may want to try adding a different credit card.
Kurt Wyngaard says
Hi Nathan,
I’ve encountered this problem before and it is the same problem Jared had in the comments below. It happens because you haven’t activated your global one card’s Mastercard SecureCode yet.
Please follow the instructions below to activate it:
You will need to activate the credit card facility of your card by asking for this service at a branch near you.
Upon doing so, you will receive a print out of instructions on how you can activate your card.
NB! You will need to wait for 24 hours before attempting the procedure.
After you have followed through with the instructions and entered your pin you will be able to purchase anything your heart desires!
I will be creating a detailed tutorial about the process and hopefully I will post it tomorrow.
Good luck! 🙂
Jared says
Hello Kurt,
When I try adding my card I get this error: “This credit card has been denied by the bank that issued your credit card. For details on why your card was denied, please contact your credit card issuer’s customer service department. Or, you may want to try adding a different credit card.”
I phone Capitec and they told me they do now support PayPal, please help, you seem to know what you are doing.
Best regards.
Kurt Wyngaard says
Hi Jared,
I also encountered this problem. It was because I didn’t activate my global one card.
Please follow the instructions below:

kurt im new to this paypal and i only have one question, how do i put money from my capitec account to paypal. i have done everything and finally linked it all but now im stuck
Kurt Wyngaard says
Hi Wesley,
Great question!
You do not have to put money into your PayPal account. Think of it as a gateway your money travels through.
When you make a purchase online, you can select PayPal as your payment method where available. You will then be asked to input your username and password and select which card you would like to use for the purchase (Make sure this is your Capitec Global One Card if you have other cards linked to your PayPal as well). The money will then be taken from your Global One Card, sent to PayPal and PayPal will convert your Rands to US dollars and pay the merchant you are purchasing from. This way the merchant doesn’t see your credit card details. 🙂
I hope this helps!

Hi Kurt. Can i link my PayPal account directly to my Capitec account. I hav been trying to do this via Fnb and had frustrating experiences for over a year now. I tried with them at a branch which didnt work out since my device wouldn’t pick up on their wifi. My mobile data was acting up that day too. I have spent hours trying to get it done telephonically then too their assistants were incompetent to help me!! Pleez advise! I prefer it linked to my Capitec account. Thanx.
